Tech billionaire and X (formerly Twitter) owner Elon Musk ignited a political firestorm on Thursday after alleging that U.S. President Donald Trump is named in the unsealed files connected to Jeffrey Epstein, the late financier and convicted sex offender.

In a startling post shared with his 187 million followers, Musk wrote: “Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!”

The post has sent shockwaves through political and media circles. Though Musk did not provide documentation to support his claim, his words have already stirred debate about transparency in the long-running Epstein investigation and reignited scrutiny over the relationships Epstein maintained with powerful global figures.

As of now, Trump has not responded publicly to the allegation. The president had previously acknowledged knowing Epstein socially but denied any wrongdoing or close association.

The U.S. Department of Justice has not issued any comment in response to Musk’s claim. However, legal observers note that if substantiated, such an inclusion could have far-reaching implications — not only politically, but also in the context of potential legal accountability and public trust.

Musk, known for his provocative and often unfiltered use of the platform he owns, has previously pushed for the full release of the Epstein documents, arguing that the public deserves to know the extent of high-profile associations with Epstein’s criminal network.

Background on the Epstein Files

Jeffrey Epstein died in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. Since then, calls for the full unsealing of documents naming high-profile individuals connected to his case have grown louder. While some documents have been released in parts through lawsuits and court orders, large portions remain sealed.

Over the years, speculation about the identities of individuals named in Epstein’s contacts or flight logs has persisted — with names ranging from politicians to royals and tech moguls surfacing in unconfirmed lists.

Musk’s post now adds Trump’s name to that volatile mix, injecting fresh controversy into an already polarised political environment.

While the claim remains unverified, the mere fact that it came from Musk, a figure whose influence spans technology, media, and politics, has ensured global attention.
