Musk vs Trump: Tech titan apologizes after fiery fallout

Quick Read

The billionaire who also  owns Tesla and SpaceX hinted at reconciling with president Trump.

Tech billionaire and X CEO Elon Musk, says he now regrets some of the things he posted online recently about U.S. President Donald Trump.

The billionaire who also  owns Tesla and SpaceX hinted at reconciling with president Trump.

“I went too far,” Musk wrote on his own social media platform, X.

Recall that the two had a public argument online after Musk left a job working with the White House.

He had also called Trump’s new tax law a “disgusting abomination.”

Musk’s apology came after President Trump told the New York Post that he was open to making peace with Musk.

Trump said he was “a little disappointed” by their argument but had “no hard feelings.”

“I think he feels really bad for saying those things,” Trump said about Musk’s harsh messages on social media.

The tax plan, which gives big tax cuts and increases military spending, was approved by the House of Representatives and is now being looked at by the Senate.

Musk had asked Americans to tell their lawmakers to stop the bill. He believes it will hurt the economy and cause a recession later in the year.

Musk also claimed without proof that Trump was mentioned in secret government documents connected to Jeffrey Epstein, a sex offender who died in prison. The White House said this was not true.

In response, Trump said Musk had “lost his mind” and warned that the government might cancel Musk’s contracts, which are worth about $38 billion. A lot of that money goes to SpaceX, Musk’s space company.

“It’s really bad because he’s being disrespectful,” Trump said in an NBC interview. “You can’t disrespect the president’s office like that.”

Over the weekend, Musk deleted many of his posts, including one where he said Trump should be removed from office.

Musk had given more money to Trump’s 2024 campaign than anyone else. At one point, people saw him as Trump’s closest supporter.

Former Trump advisor Steve Bannon said Musk should be deported since he was born in South Africa.

Vice President JD Vance told reporters that although Trump is upset, he doesn’t want to keep fighting with Musk. Vance also said he talked to both men and tried to keep Musk supporting the government.

Most Republicans want Trump and Musk to become friends again. Many Democrats have been watching the drama from the sidelines.

The argument started shortly after Musk quit his job leading the Department of Government Efficiency (also called “Doge”).

He promised that Doge would cut trillions of dollars in government spending. But after 129 days, he quit, and the cuts were much smaller than expected. Many people Musk hired are still working in different government departments.
