Gov. Makinde honours 3SC’s golden generation with land allocation

The Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has officially approved the allocation of plots of land to members of the Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) 1998 team, fulfilling a 26-year-old promise made by the state government.

This long-awaited reward follows the remarkable double victory recorded by 3SC in 1998, when the club won both the Nigerian Premier League and the WAFU Cup — the latter being the only continental title ever won by a Nigerian club. In recognition of this feat, the then Military Administrator of the state, Commissioner of Police Amen Oyakhire, had announced a reward of ₦1 million and a plot of land for each player and official.

Despite the pronouncement, successive administrations failed to honor the promise — until now. Governor Makinde, known for his commitment to justice and due recognition, has intervened to ensure that these heroes receive their due reward.

The players, officials, and former club management under the late Chairman Bode Oyewole expressed their profound gratitude to Governor Makinde, praising his leadership, compassion, and dedication to righting past wrongs.

This gesture, they noted, reflects the Governor’s belief in hard work, excellence, and fairness — as well as his resolve to address long-standing injustices committed by previous governments.

By investigating the cause of the delay and finally approving the allocation, Governor Makinde has once again demonstrated his people-first philosophy.
