Court Dissolves 13-Year Old Marriage

An Ikorodu customary court in Lagos on Friday granted Raphael Oseni, 59, his wish by dissolving  his 13-years-old marriage.

Oseni, who filed a divorce suit on 19 October against his wife, Mariam– citing battering and violent behaviour– insisted that he could no longer tolerate his wife’s attitude.

“My wife is very violent in nature, when we get home now she would start her usual attitude.

“She threatens me with a knife; please separate us before she kills me,“ he said.

Mariam, 45, said that she accepted all the blame and that the court should grant him what he wanted.

“Please, separate us. I am no more interested. Please grant him whatever he wishes so that I would also have a rest of mind,“ Mariam said.

She, however, appealed to the court to urge her former husband to take good care of their only daughter, aged 5.

The Court President, Alhaji Nojeem Isiaka, dissolved the marriage and told them to go their separate ways, urging Oseni to allow Mariam see her daughter anytime she wishes.
