Council Cries Out Over Illegal Mining
Alhaji Bala Umar, Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, has cried out over the activities of illegal miners, which have robbed the council of huge revenues.
Umar expressed his feeling on Saturday in Toro, headquarters of the council, when he visited the District Head of Toro, Alhaji Adamu Waziri, in his palace.
He frowned at the miners ‘were activities in some parts of the local government area, adding that the council would no longer tolerate such illegal acts.
Umar directed all traditional rulers in the area to report any case of illegal mining within their jurisdictions to the local government for prompt action.
He warned that gone were the days when the council sat idle while its resources, especially mineral resources, were illegally being carted away by miners.
Umar also warned that the council would penalise any miner caught operating in the council area without permit.
He said such miners were using fake licences or had refused to obtain same from the local government and were, thus, robbing the council of huge funds that would have accrued to it as revenue.
The chairman assured that his council would spread development projects evenly within the three districts of the council.
He revealed that the council has embarked on the construction of two earth dams and 11 boreholes in various locations in the council area.
Umar explained that works on the projects were at various stages of completion and called on the people to give useful advice to the council to enable it improve on its performance.
Responding, the district head of Toro, who is also the Katukan Bauchi, Alhaji Adamu Waziri, thanked the chairman for his visit and assured that the office would cooperate with the council to enable it excel.
