What Super Eagles must do to qualify for 2026 World Cup – Eguavoen

Former Super Eagles coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has expressed hope that Nigeria can still qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Eguavoen, who briefly led the national team after Finidi George resigned, said the team still has a fighting chance.

The 59-year-old helped Nigeria secure a place at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) before Eric Chelle was appointed as the permanent coach.

Currently, the Super Eagles are in fourth place in their World Cup qualifying group. To qualify, Chelle and his players must win all their remaining matches.

Speaking to ACL Sports, Eguavoen said:

“It’s a tough challenge, but it’s still possible. With the talent in the team and support from Nigerians, I believe we can do it. I’m 100% sure because the players are eager to play at the World Cup.

“I’m not focusing on the last game. The goal now is to take it one game at a time and treat each match like a final.”

Despite their difficult position, Eguavoen believes that unity and determination can lead Nigeria to the World Cup.
