The police command of Sokoto state has confirmed that an attack was launched by suspected bandits in two farming communities in the state.
The attack which occurred at the Tangaza Local Government area of the state led to the death of eight individuals, leaving one injured.
DSP Ahmed Rufai, the commands spokesperson told Punch on Thursday that the victims were killed during a coordinated assaulted on Tuesday.
“Eight persons were confirmed dead, while one injured victim is currently receiving treatment at the hospital,” he stated.
A witness confirmed the incident, revealing that the bandits later moved to Sabiyo village to conducted another attack.
They later advanced to Sabiyo village, where they ambushed farmers working on their farmlands, killing six of them on the spot,” a witness said. Among the victims was Aminu Sama’ila, who sustained gunshot wounds to the neck and chest and was evacuated to the Specialist Hospital Sokoto,” the witness stated
It was also gathered that a farmer named Usman Sama’ila has been missing since the attack.
The security officers have started a search operation, an effort to arrest the attackers.
The security authorities have also urged residents of the affected communities to be on the lookout and report any suspicious activity.
