Revealed: First African artiste to join the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Beninese-born artiste, Angélique Kidjo has been officially named as the first African artiste to be given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a historic move for African music and international exposure.

Five-time Grammy Award recipient, Kidjo was one of 35 global performers to make the Walk of Fame Class of 2026, Recordings category — a list which has Miley Cyrus, Josh Groban, and The Clark Sisters.

Kidjo’s inclusion was announced by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which unveiled the whole list following a procedure that saw hundreds of submissions.

“Angelique Kidjo is the first African artist in history to be receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame,” Kidjo posted on social media as a repost of the news, celebrating with glee the moment that has reverberated shockwaves of excitement across the continent.

At 64, Kidko becomes a part of history. From being the Polar Music Prize winner of 2023, to spearheading global discussions of African sound and culture, her name is now among a select few entertainment icons whose work is immortalized on Hollywood Boulevard.

The date of her star unveiling ceremony remains to be announced.
