Tomiyasu leaves Arsenal after mutual agreement, set to become free agent
Japanese international Takehiro Tomiyasu has parted ways with Arsenal, following a mutual agreement to terminate his contract.
The 25-year-old defender, who has battled recurring injuries in recent seasons, will no longer continue at the North London club, as confirmed by multiple reports on Thursday.
Tomiyasu, who joined Arsenal from Bologna in 2021, was initially seen as a reliable and versatile option in Mikel Arteta’s defence. However, injuries have limited his impact, and the club has now opted to end the relationship early.
Sources close to the player revealed that Tomiyasu is expected to return to football by late 2025, after suffering another injury setback. But his chapter at Arsenal is now officially closed.
The decision was described as “mutual”, with both parties agreeing it was best for the defender to move on. He will be available as a free agent in the coming weeks.
Tomiyasu made over 50 appearances for Arsenal and was part of the squad that helped the club return to the UEFA Champions League.
He is now expected to weigh up his options once fully recovered, with interest likely from clubs in both Europe and Asia.
