Arsenal have officially announced that their new signing, Martin Zubimendi, will wear the number 36 shirt next season, PM reports.

The Spanish midfielder was unveiled by the club on Sunday after completing his move from Real Sociedad.

Arsenal agreed to pay €65 million to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.

Zubimendi becomes Mikel Arteta’s second signing this summer. The Gunners had earlier signed goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea as they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Premier League season.

Speaking about Zubimendi’s arrival, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised his qualities and explained why the club worked hard to sign him.

“Martin Zubimendi is a player who will bring so much quality, calmness, and intelligence to our midfield,” Arteta said. “He reads the game very well, and his ability to keep the ball and control the tempo is something we need. He will fit into our system perfectly and has everything it takes to become an important player for us.”

The 25-year-old midfielder has been one of the most consistent performers in La Liga over the past few seasons, and he has also impressed for Spain at the international level. Many Arsenal fans see him as the natural replacement for Jorginho, who left the club this summer to join Brazilian side Flamengo as a free agent.

Arsenal hope that Zubimendi’s arrival will boost their chances of winning the Premier League title next season. The club finished second last season and are determined to go one better under Arteta’s leadership.

Zubimendi is expected to join up with his new teammates for pre-season training this week as Arsenal prepare for their upcoming friendly matches before the league resumes.

The Spaniard will join the gunners for Pre-season games before making his premier League debut when new  season starts in August 2025.

Arsenal’s first five games of the season as been dubbed the hardest  among the 20 teams jostling for the premier League trophy next season.
