Netanyahu praised Trump's "steadfast and exceptional dedication to promoting peace, security, and stability around the world".

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu  says he has nominated US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing Trump’s efforts to advance peace initiatives in the Middle East.

During a White House meeting on Monday, Netanyahu handed Trump a letter addressed to the Nobel Committee, submitted on July 1. In the letter, Netanyahu praised Trump’s “steadfast and exceptional dedication to promoting peace, security, and stability around the world”.

Netanyahu highlighted Trump’s role in brokering the Abraham Accords, normalization agreements between Israel and several Arab nations, which he said marked a “historic advance toward peace, security, and regional stability” in the Middle East. “Few leaders have achieved such tangible breakthroughs to peace in such a short time,” Netanyahu wrote, adding that Trump is “more deserving than anyone” of the Nobel Peace Prize.

The nomination comes after Trump’s recent diplomatic efforts in the Middle East, including brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Iran. Netanyahu likened the joint efforts of Israel and the US against Iran to removing “two tumors that were threatening the life of Israel: the nuclear tumor and the ballistic-missile tumor”. However, he cautioned that constant monitoring is necessary to prevent these threats from resurfacing.

When asked about a recent IED blast in the Gaza Strip that killed five Israeli soldiers, Trump expressed confidence that it wouldn’t impact ongoing ceasefire negotiations. US Mideast envoy Steve Witkoff also expressed hope that an agreement would be reached “very quickly”.
