Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has opened up on why she stood firmly behind comedienne Princess during the controversial rape case involving fellow actor Baba Ijesha.

Speaking on a recent episode of The Goldroom with Iyabo, the actress recalled her personal experiences of being molested multiple times, saying they played a major role in her decision to support the victim and take a public stance.

“I didn’t control my emotions then because I was outraged,” she said. “I’ve gone through what she went through — multiple times — and I just felt like enough is enough.”

Iyabo Ojo expressed disappointment over how the public, including some adults, twisted the narrative, victim-shamed the young girl, and launched attacks on Princess, who brought the case to light.

“I was taken aback when I saw adults manipulating the story and even coming for the child and Princess. That made me realise we have a long way to go in Nigeria,” she said.

She stressed that entertainers have a duty to uphold positive values and act as role models, adding that she holds her colleagues accountable when they fall short.

“When my fellow entertainers do wrong, I call them out because we are supposed to do right by our people. We are evangelists in our own way — we preach through our roles. So it hurts more when a known person does the wrong thing,” she said.
