Kano: Police nab 98 suspects for various crimes in 24 days

The Kano Police Command said its operatives arrested 98 suspects currently answerable to 21 major cases across the state within 24 days.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, who revealed this to journalists at the Bompai police headquarters, on Thursday, said the crimes committed include armed robbery, kidnapping, thuggery, theft, fraud, among others.
Bakori stated that, “in this early second half of the year 2025 (ie. 3rd Quarter of the year), the dynamic security situation of the state was carefully studied and demographically analyzed.
“Consequently, the Command has now strategically launched a Special Operation, tagged ‘Operation Kukan Kura’ which symbolizes adherence to the co-ethics of community policing where members of the public participate actively in policing activities, including information sharing, crime prevention, management and control.”
The Kano boss said the strategy was in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to all police Commands and Formations on community-centric policing and strategy to dominate the public space against all forms of crimes and criminality.
Bakori further stated that: “The objective of this Special Operation is to act as a radar to detect and proactively nip in the bud any threats of thuggery and related crimes within Kano Metropolis, banditry and kidnapping along Kano borders, drug trafficking and abuse as well as other social vices in the State.”
According to him, significant breakthroughs have been made since the launch of the operation on July 1, 2025.
Within the period under review, Kano Police Command arrested 21suspected armed robbers; four suspected kidnappers; five suspected drug dealers; 12 suspected motor vehicle thieves; four suspected fraudsters; five suspected thieves; 47 suspected thugs.
Police also recovered six motor vehicles; eight tricycles; nine motorcycles; 42 tubes of red solutions; 35 parcels, 1123 wraps of substance suspected to be cannabis sativa; 86 bottle of suck and die; 30 sachets, 43 pieces of exol tablets.
Other exhibits include 10 sachets and 53 pieces of diazepam tablets; 16 cutlasses and 98 knives; counterfeit US$10,000; 13 mobile phones; five motor batteries and three motor spare tyres.
Bakori further stated that: “The newly launched Operation Kukan Kura is being integrated into the several robust Operational Strategies earlier adopted be the Command that have had great impact in curbing crimes in the State, including Intelligence-led raid operations, visibilit patrols, strengthened synergy with other security agencies, strategic communication, and robust community policing engagements with traditional rulers, religious leaders, members of the press, youths groups, NGOs, CSOs, community members and other key stakeholders.
