Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called on all eligible voters in Lagos State to participate in the local government elections scheduled for Saturday, July 12, 2025.

In a statement issued on Friday, the governor emphasized the importance of the elections in shaping grassroots leadership and fostering community development.

“The local government is the closest tier of government to the people and plays a vital role in delivering essential services and fostering grassroots development,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He described the election as a critical opportunity for Lagosians to elect chairmen and councilors who will represent their interests and drive progress at the community level.

Highlighting the significance of civic participation, the governor urged registered voters to exercise their democratic rights peacefully.

“This election is not just a constitutional process; it is a powerful expression of your voice and your civic responsibility,” he stated.

To ensure a secure and credible electoral process, Sanwo-Olu announced that security agencies have been strategically deployed across polling units and communities to protect voters, electoral officials, and election materials.

He also expressed confidence in the preparedness of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), which has assured readiness for the exercise.

The governor called on political stakeholders, party agents, and candidates to uphold principles of peace, fairness, and respect for the rule of law.

He specifically urged youths to reject violence and serve as ambassadors of peace and democratic responsibility.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to free, fair, and transparent elections, Sanwo-Olu stated, “Lagos will continue to set the pace in democratic development.”

He encouraged residents to demonstrate the state’s commitment to peace, progress, and participatory governance.

The local government elections will see voters across Lagos State’s 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas elect new chairmen and councilors to lead community-level governance.
