Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, cast his vote on Saturday at Polling Unit 002, Ward A4, in the Oke Balogun area of Epe during the ongoing Local Government (LG) elections.
Speaking to journalists after voting, Hamzat described the electoral process as peaceful and encouraging, despite minor logistical delays.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that officials of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) arrived at the polling unit with voting materials at 10:18 a.m., with accreditation and voting commencing simultaneously at 11:20 a.m.
Hamzat expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election, stating, “Voting has started and we just hope it continues smoothly. People are still voting, so I am encouraged.”
Commenting on the voter turnout, the deputy governor noted, “So far, so good. It’s early to assess turnout, but it’s been impressive and encouraging.”
He expressed optimism about his party’s prospects, saying he expected them to “win by a large margin.”
Hamzat attributed the delay in the start of voting to logistical challenges faced by LASIEC, given the scale of the exercise in Epe, which has approximately 800 polling units.
“Election is about logistics, and people should understand that. They must ensure everything is in place and organised properly,” he remarked.
He urged voters to remain orderly and cooperate with LASIEC officials to ensure a peaceful and violence-free process.
“I encourage voters to participate,” Hamzat said, emphasizing the importance of civic engagement.
