Bayelsa, Institute To Ensure Towns, Cities’ Development

Bayelsa State Government has said that it will continue to partner with the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners Registration Council to ensure proper development of towns and cities in the state.

The Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Mr Thankgod Apere, made the promise in Yenagoa on Wednesday while exchanging views with members of town planners registration council.

He promised that the state government would assist the institute in hosting the 2012 workshop, which was a mandatory professional development programme for town planners.

Apene commended Governor Timipre Sylva for nominating Mr Ezekiel Goin as the state’s representative on the Town Planners Registration Council Of Nigeria.

He said the state government had approved and forwarded to the state House of Assembly, the proposed master plan for some towns in the state.

Earlier, Goin thanked the commissioner for assisting the institute during its inauguration and for recommending one of them as a representative of the state on its registration council.

He listed some of the achievements of the state chapter to include hosting of the Eastern Regional Town Planners meeting and registration of more than 15 town planners who were indigenes of Bayelsa State.
