Croatian football star Luka Modric has signed a one-year contract with Italian club AC Milan.

The 39-year-old, who has been captain of Croatia, officially joined the club after leaving Real Madrid.

Last week, Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri confirmed that Modric would join the team after playing in the FIFA Club World Cup. Modric, who turns 40 in September, spent 12 years at Real Madrid after moving from Tottenham in 2012.

In a statement, AC Milan said:

“We are happy to announce that Luka Modric has signed a contract with the club until 30 June 2026, with an option to extend it for another year.”

Modric arrived in Milan earlier on Monday for medical tests. Italian media report that he will begin training with the team in August.

Speaking in a video shared on the club’s social media, Modric said:

“I’m very happy to be here to start a new chapter in my career. A big hug to everyone.”

AC Milan’s first match of the season is scheduled for August 17 in the Italian Cup.
