Organised Labour in Ogun State has initiated an indefinite strike, citing the state government’s failure to remit pension deductions, implement the minimum wage, and address other worker grievances.

This is according to a statement issued by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Chairman, Mr. Demola Hameed-Benco, on Monday in Abeokuta.

The decision followed a statewide congress of state civil service workers and organised labour, which highlighted the dysfunctional Ogun State Pension Law (OGSPRL) 2008, amended in 2013, establishing the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

The NLC statement declared, “Arising from the resolution reached at the general parliament of Ogun state civil and public service workers, all members are directed to withdraw their services till further notice.”

The union warned that workers who fail to comply with the strike directive do so at their own risk, stating, “The congress warns that any worker who disobeys the directive does so at their own risk, the union will not bear responsibility for such actions.”

The NLC urged the Ogun State government to promptly initiate dialogue to resolve the issues, adding, “The NLC urge the Ogun government to, as soon as possible, call for dialogue to address the concerns of the teeming workers.”

The statement concluded with a call for unity among workers, asserting, “We shall continue to keep you updated on further development. A workers united can never be defeated. Solidarity forever.” (NAN)
