Stop the blame game: Human rights lawyer defends Wunmi in Mohbad’s death
Human rights lawyer Festus Ogun has made a new revelation about the inquest into the death of late singer Mohbad, saying he had figured out the cause of death within just four sittings.
Ogun, who said he wrote the first letter to the Chief Coroner of Lagos requesting an inquiry into the singer’s mysterious death, said the proceedings quickly offered him a clear picture of what happened.
“Barely four sittings, I had an idea of how Mohbad died,” Ogun stated on X.
He also condemned the ongoing attacks on Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi, calling them “deliberate and calculated.”
According to Ogun, the harassment Wunmi faces reflects a troubling cultural practice in parts of Africa, where widows are often blamed for the death of their husbands.
“It is common in Africa to see the husband’s family accusing the wife of being the mastermind of death,” he said. “In some cultures, the widow will be cruelly compelled to indulge in rituals to prove her innocence. That barbaric culture is still around, and Wunmi is yet a victim.”
