Why I opposed Atiku in 2023 – Ortom
Quick Read
I even said I was ready to lose my senatorial bid because I believed it was more important to stand for justice, equity, and fairness.”
Former Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has shared why he did not support Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), during the 2023 elections.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday, Ortom said he believed the presidency should have gone to the southern part of the country in the name of fairness, equity, and justice.
According to Ortom, the north had already held the presidency for eight years, so it was only fair for the south to take over.
He said the PDP made a mistake by insisting the presidency remain in the north.
Ortom explained:
“When the PDP decided to support a northern candidate, we disagreed. It was not fair.
Everyone knows that for equity and justice, after eight years in the north, it should have gone to the south.
“I made my position clear. I didn’t want to be a hypocrite or pretend. That’s why I worked against the PDP in the 2023 election.
I even said I was ready to lose my senatorial bid because I believed it was more important to stand for justice, equity, and fairness.”
