The woes of Nigeria’s main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP continue on Saturday as two senators from Osun State joined the increasing number of exodus of chieftains from the party.
The two senators, Olubiyi Fadeyi and Francis Fadahunsi representing Osun Central and East respectively resigned their membership in separate letters to the ward executives of PDP.
They both blamed the crises and division in the party for their action.
Indeed, the letter by the two senators were obvious copy of each other. Also, both senators did not announce the new party they will be joining.
However, the resignation of the senators followed speculations that Osun governor, Ademola Adeleke is gearing up to dump the PDP for the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Also, some of the chieftains of PDP have been dumping the party for the African Democratic Congress, ADPC adopted as a platform by coalition of opposition ahead of the 2027 general election.
Fadeyi, in his letter dated June 12, addressed to the chairman of the party in Ward 3, Oke-Ejigbo, Ila-Orangun, Osun State, made available to newsmen on Saturday in Osogbo, said he resigned due to irreconcilable differences and division in the party.
The letter reads, “I wish to formally notify you that I am resigning my membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect.
“Irreconcilable differences and irreparable division have emerged, along with court cases and counter court cases in the last three years, which have created factions in the party at the national level.
“This was concluded after consultation and engagement with my political associates, family, and friends.
“Thank you in advance for accepting my resignation.”
Also, Fadahunsi, in a letter dated June 12, addressed to the chairman of the party in Ward 4, Obokun Local Government Area of the state made available to newsmen on Saturday in Osogbo, said he resigned due to irreconcilable differences and unresolved legal crises within the party since the 2023 general elections.
The letter reads, “I wish to formally notify you that I am resigning my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect, due to the irreparable, irreconcilable differences and protracted legal battles that have bedevilled the party at the national level after the 2023 general elections.
“This was concluded after consultation and engagement with my political associates, family, and friends.
“It is my wish that you accept my resignation in good faith.”
When contacted, the Legislative Assistant to the Senator, Mr Femi Fadipe, confirmed the resignation of his principal from PDP.
Fadipe said that Fadahunsi tried his best to keep the party going but with no headway.
The Senator said he and his supporters would announce their next move soon.
