The National Sports Commission (NSC) has confirmed that members of the Tunisian team participating in the CAA U18/U20 African Athletics Championship in Abeokuta, Ogun State, were involved in a road accident on Saturday, July 19, 2025.

PM News gathered that the accident happened while the team was traveling from the competition venue to the Games Village. The vehicle they were in was not following the official safety protocols and did not have the usual security and support escort.

Luckily, the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, was on the same road when the accident happened. He immediately stopped and helped the injured athletes.

They were quickly taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Abeokuta for first aid, and then moved to another hospital for further treatment.

Both the Governor and the Director General of the NSC visited the hospital shortly afterward and are personally making sure the athletes are receiving proper care.

The Director General is also staying in close contact with the Tunisian team officials.

The NSC has wished the injured athletes a speedy recovery and offered support to their teammates and families. They also thanked the Ogun State Government, medical staff, and security officials for their quick response.

The safety of all athletes and participants remains the top priority of the NSC.
