Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has spoken out against his former record label, Destiny Records, over allegations of phone theft and claims of public humiliation.
In an official statement released on his Instagram page, the street-hop artiste clarified that the phone in question was given to him during his stint with the label, owned by Ija Omode, who currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Union of Road Transport Workers in Ogun State.
Portable recounted that after he decided to leave the label due to lack of support, members affiliated with the label allegedly retrieved the phone forcefully, bypassed its password, and went as far as stripping him and falsely accusing him of theft. A video of the incident was later shared online by Naijakit.
“This is a clear case of intimidation and bullying by a record label,” the singer wrote. “I am speaking out now not for revenge but to set the record straight and protect upcoming artists from similar treatment.”
He revealed that while the individuals involved had since reached out to him privately, they had failed to publicly retract the damaging narrative.
Portable, who shot into fame in 2022, has had multiple public fallouts with managers and promoters. In January of that year, he famously clashed with his then-manager Kogbagidi over a gifted SUV. He later accused show promoter Billyque of kidnapping him in Kenya, and also parted ways with other associates over alleged financial misconduct and unethical behavior.
