……I even gave away my designer clothes

Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface has revealed the drama behind-the-scenes of  how a jaw-dropping €70 million transfer to Saudi giants Al-Nassr collapsed at the last minute leaving him stranded at Frankfurt Airport with packed bags and a suitcase short of designer clothes.

Speaking with raw honesty and a touch of humor, Boniface shared how the deal seemed all but done so much so that he was ready to fly out and begin a new chapter in his career.

“It was a big offer! €70M for the club, so they couldn’t say no,” Boniface said. “They accepted, so I was ready to go, and I even had my suitcases packed.”

Living in Cologne at the time, the Nigerian forward made his way to Frankfurt Airport, hopeful and mentally prepared for the move.

So confident was he in the deal going through that he even gave away some of his high-end designer gear to friends — a symbolic goodbye to his European chapter.

“The offer was so huge that I even gave away some of my luxury clothes to my friends,” he said. “I was at the airport, waiting, praying that the transfer would go through…”

But then came the unexpected twist — the deal collapsed in dramatic fashion.

“My village people were like, ‘Come and go, let’s see na,’” he joked, referencing the popular Nigerian phrase used when fate seems to intervene mysteriously. “At the last minute, everything fell through.”

Stuck at the airport and left to process the surreal turn of events, Boniface made a light-hearted call to one of his friends.

“I called my friend and said, ‘Do you remember the Louis Vuitton T-shirt I gave you?’”

The anecdote has since gone viral among fans, who appreciated both the candor and comic timing in Boniface’s storytelling.

While the move didn’t materialize, Boniface remains a key figure at Leverkusen, having impressed last season with his physical presence, flair, and eye for goal. Whether another offer will come — Saudi or otherwise — remains to be seen.
