A 42-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for killing a neighbour during a violent assault at a home in Charlton.

Radoslaw Brzezicki, of Erwood Road, Charlton, was convicted of manslaughter at Isleworth Crown Court on Wednesday, 25 June, in connection with the death of 60-year-old Robert Dlugosz and was sentenced.

The fatal incident took place on 22 November 2023, following an argument at Robert’s home on Erwood Road.

During the same incident, a woman in her 40s was also physically assaulted. Brzezicki was additionally convicted of causing actual bodily harm.

Emergency services were called after the female victim managed to flee the property and alert a passerby, who contacted police.

According to Met Police, officers arrived to find Mr Dlugosz still alive but critically injured, saying that using a translation app, a police officer was able to communicate with the Polish-speaking victim and obtain a brief statement, in which he named Brzezicki as his attacker.

Shortly after giving this account, Mr Dlugosz collapsed and was taken to hospital for emergency surgery. He died three days later, on 25 November. A post-mortem examination confirmed he died from a traumatic brain injury.

Detective Chief Inspector Samantha Townsend from Specialist Crime South, who led the investigation, said: “We hope that this sentence will provide some closure to Mr Dlugosz’s family and friends. I would once again like to pay tribute to the surviving victim in this case, whose evidence proved essential to securing a conviction and lengthy prison sentence for Brzezicki.”

Brzezicki was arrested shortly after Mr Dlugosz collapsed. His conviction was based on accounts provided by both victims, one of whom spoke to police before his death, and the other who escaped and helped initiate the emergency response.
