Justice S.M. Shuaibu of the Federal High Court in Kano has convicted and sentenced TikToker Abubakar Ibrahim, known as ‘G-Fresh,’ and musician Hamisu Sa’id, also known as Hamisu Breaker, for violating Nigeria’s currency laws.
The duo was prosecuted by the Kano Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for abusing Naira notes, an offence under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, 2007.
Ibrahim faced charges for spraying and stepping on ₦1,000 notes totaling ₦14,000 while dancing at a shop in Tarauni Local Government Area in November 2024.
Similarly, Yusuf was charged for tampering with ₦30,000 in ₦200 notes by spraying them during a social event in Hadejia, Jigawa State, in the same month.
Both acts violated the CBN Act, which prohibits the defacement or abuse of Nigeria’s currency.
Both defendants pleaded guilty to the charges.
Following their pleas and evidence presented by EFCC counsel Zarami Mohammed, Justice Shuaibu sentenced each to five months in prison, with the option of paying a ₦200,000 fine instead.
The convictions stem from incidents where the two were caught mishandling Naira notes, leading to their arraignment and sentencing.
