A tragic boat accident occurred on Friday night in Taraba State’s Gassol Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of at least three people, with several others still missing.

The incident happened around 7:00 p.m. when a boat ferrying commuters across the collapsed Namnai Bridge capsized.

According to Jidda Mayoreniyo, Chairman of Inland Water Transporters in Taraba State, the boat was carrying both passengers and vehicles when it sank. Rescue efforts have yielded the recovery of four drowned vehicles, and while some passengers were rescued, others remain unaccounted for. The accident has also resulted in the loss of luggage and personal belongings, which have yet to be recovered.

The Namnai Bridge is said to have collapsed over a year ago. Consequently, Commuters have resorted to relying on boats to cross the river.
