2027: Why serving governors are avoiding our party – ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says it isn’t losing sleep over the absence of sitting governors in its camp ahead of the 2027 presidential elections, insisting the party remains the “only alternative” to what it calls Nigeria’s current “crisis of existence.”

Speaking after a strategy meeting of the National Political Consultative Group (North) in Abuja on Saturday, the party’s spokesperson, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, said fear of intimidation from President Bola Tinubu’s administration is keeping governors from openly pitching their tents with the coalition-backed ADC.

“We know what’s happening to these governors. Some of them can’t join APC, so they’re playing safe. No problem,” Abdullahi said. “But let’s be clear: Nigerians are angry. Nigerians are hungry. Parents can’t pay school fees, salaries are worthless, and they know they need an alternative. That alternative is ADC.”

The meeting, which observed a minute’s silence for former President Muhammadu Buhari, was attended by political heavyweights including former Senate President and interim ADC chairman, Senator David Mark; ex-Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai and others.

Abdullahi dismissed claims by APC stalwarts that the ADC would collapse within six months. “They said dead on arrival. Now it’s six months lifespan. Well, we’re counting. The coalition is Nigerians’ coalition. They can keep predicting, we’ll keep growing,” he stated.

He also waved aside fears of hijack by a cabal, promising robust structures to keep the party people-driven.
