Expert Warns Against Sex Enhancement Drugs
Mr. Mohammed Musibaudeen, a Consultant Pharmacist, on Friday in Ilorin warned that indiscriminate use of sex enhancement drugs could lead to permanent destruction of male and female organs.
Musibaudeen, a former Consultant with the National Foods Drugs and Administration Control (NAFDAC), in an interview with NAN, noted that the trend was rampant and needed to be discouraged.
“The resultant effect is that the use of aphrodisiac drugs or instruments will lead to destruction of male organ permanently, while the female organ will secrete liquid unceasingly.
“Abusers use supra therapeutic doses. Some aphrodisiac produce sustained erection that requires surgical intervention that sometimes lead to death.”
Musibaudeen said a majority of the aphrodisiacs could affect the cardiovascular organs, especially the heart, stressing that the trend could become worse in a hypertensive patient.
He said aphrodisiacs were capable of precipitating “angina” in an individual with cardiovascular ailment, a condition that will require increase in oxygen demand due to coronary insufficiency.
“This is characterised by pain in the chest and other parts of the body, especially after strenuous exercise is involved in sexual intercourse.”
Musibaudeen, however, advised that patients who needed aphrodisiacs should contact doctors and pharmacists for appropriate advice.
He also said there were a number of foods containing natural aphrodisiacs with minimal or no side effects, which may be used instead of pills.
Such foods, he added, included banana, walnuts, garlic, ginger and maringa (Zogale), a herb commonly found in northern Nigeria.
