Four Nigerian players have been named in the Best XI of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), following their outstanding performances throughout the tournament in Morocco.
Super Falcons stars Rasheedat Ajibade, Esther Okoronkwo, Michelle Alozie, and Chiamaka Nnadozie earned spots in the prestigious lineup, which was selected by the tournament’s Technical Study Group.
Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, who was also awarded the Best Goalkeeper title, was a key figure for Nigeria, keeping four clean sheets and conceding just two goals from open play — both in the final against host nation Morocco.
Right-back Michelle Alozie was recognized as the best in her position. The Houston Dash defender featured in five of Nigeria’s six matches, showing consistency and resilience in defense.
Esther Okoronkwo impressed with her versatility and flair. The winger contributed significantly to Nigeria’s attacking play, scoring two goals and registering six assists in six appearances. She was also named Woman of the Match twice during the competition.
Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade was crowned the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
The 24-year-old contributed one goal and two assists, earning three Woman of the Match honors for her influential performances.
The Super Falcons’ dominance in the Best XI highlights Nigeria’s continued strength in women’s football across the continent.
