A 38-year-old Muslim prophet, Azeez Aboderin was on Wednesday sentenced to two years in prison for fraudulently collecting N2.2 million under false pretence from a woman.
Azeez, whose address was not provided was arraigned before Ota Magistrates ‘Court, Ogun, on Wednesday sentenced
He had earlier pleaded not guilty to the two-charge of fraud and obtaining money under false pretence filed against him
But in her judgement, the Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Fadairo, sentenced the convict to two years imprisonment with an option of N200, 000 fine.
Fadairo also asked the convict to restitute N2.2 million to the complainant, Oyeniyi Mariam.
She said that the Prosecution Counsel, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, had proven beyond reasonable doubt that he was guilty of the charge brought against him.
Earlier, Adaraloye, told the court that the now convict committed the offences between January and July, 2025, at Iyana-Iyesi area, Ota.
He said that the convict fraudulently collected the sum under false pretence from the complainant to assist her on an undisclosed problem.
He added that the convict converted the money to personal use instead of doing what the complainant asked him to do for her.
