3rd Lagos Tertiary Games: Yabatech Dust ‘Em In Table Tennis

Male ping pongers of Yaba College of Technology, Yabatech,  won the first and second prizes of the table tennis event in the finals decided on Saturday.

Ahmed Adigun of Yaba College of Technology defeated compatriot Mojeed Olayiwola 4-1 in the final of the Men’s Singles of the 3rd Tertiary Games played at the Indoor Sports Hall of the University of Lagos Sports Complex.

In the final watched by the Lagos State Commissioner for Sports, Barrister Wahid Enitan Oshodi and other dignitaries, who included the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, LOC, of the tournament, Prince Wale Oladunjoye, Adigun beat Olayiwola  in 8-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-6, 11-12 game. Adigun was presented with a gold medal and the sum of N100,000 by the Commissioner, while Olayiwola got N60,000.

In the Women’s Singles, Fatima Bello of Lagos State University, LASU, beat  Aminat Fashola of Lagos State Polytechnic, LASPOTECH 4-2 to lift the women’s crown. The explosive match ended 11-4, 7-11, 14-16, 11-5, 12-10, 11-6.

Bello was awarded a gold medal and the sum of N100,000. while Fashola, the silver medal winner, won a trophy  for her institution and  the sum of  N60,000. The 3rd and 4th place winners in both the men and women’s categories won N40,000 respectively.

Commissioner of Sports, Oshodi commended the winners for their exploits in the games.

He said that the tertiary games is one among many sports programmes the government of Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola wants to use to develop sports at the grassroots, adding that healthy sporting competition among tertiary institutions in Lagos will not only help keep the students busy but give the state chances to discover more talents.
