President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the appointment of the governing council and principal officers for the Federal University of Environment and Technology, Koroma/Saakpenwa, Ogoni, Rivers State, paving the way for its inaugural student intake in September 2025.
Leading the institution as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council is Professor Don Mon Baridam, a management scholar specializing in organizational behaviour, formerly with the University of Port Harcourt.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chinedu Mmom, also from the University of Port Harcourt’s Department of Geography and Environmental Management, brings extensive experience, having served as Rivers State’s Commissioner for Education.
The governing council reflects Nigeria’s regional diversity, comprising Emmanuel Onoja (North Central), Hamid Adekunle (South West), Professor Chima Oji (South East), and Alhaji Abdullahi Magaji Lamda (North West).
Key administrative roles have been filled by seasoned professionals: Dr. Mpigi Monday Douglas (South South) as Registrar, Zoryii Josco Nwaimanie (North Central) as Bursar, and Dr. Saghanen Ntogo G. B. (South South) as Librarian.
The university, established through legislation signed by President Tinubu on February 3, 2025, aims to advance environmental and technological education.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, emphasized the appointments’ alignment with the administration’s commitment to quality education and regional representation.
