Police officer, special constabularies under investigation for corruption in Kano

Kano Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has ordered discreet investigation against a police officer and two Special Constabularies for alleged corrupt practices in the state.

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the directive by the CP followed an allegation made by a resident of Sheka against a police officer and two members of Police Special Constabulary attached to the Sheka Police Division.

The Commissioner of Police, after interviewing the parties, ordered a thorough and impartial investigation to ascertain the veracity or otherwise of the allegations.

The Command assured the public of its commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity, and that anyone found culpable will face the consequences of their actions.

Meanwhile, CP Bakori received appreciation letters from some notable community organizations, including the Sheka Gidan Kaji Development Association, the Shagari Quarters Development Association, and Mu Hadu Mu Gyara Initiative, Sheka, jointly led by Prof. Garba Ibrahim Sheka.

Prof. Garba Sheka commended the Commissioner of Police for making fruitful efforts in combating thuggery and its related crimes, and restoring peace in Sheka community and its environs.

The letters read in parts: “On behalf of the entire residents of Sheka Gidan Kaji and the general people of Sheka Quarters, we write to express our sincere appreciation and profound gratitude to you and your men for the frantic and tremendous arrest being made of the notorious gang of “Yan-Daba” who had brought unrest and fear in our area. Sir, the people of Sheka Quarters, now sleep peacefully and with their two eyes closed.”

“We the residents of SHAGARI Quarters write to formally commended the efforts of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, Kano State Command in general and Anti-Daba Squad in particular, for the clearance operations carried out against notorious gang leaders who have been terrorising the inhabitants with various forms of crime including phone snatching and robbery, thug clashes (Fadan Daba), stealing of motorcycles and vehicles etc.”

Another letter reads: “On behalf of the entire members of Sheka Community, we hereby write to express our heartfelt appreciation to the Kano State Police Command under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori PhD. We also, offer special prayers, hoping that Allah will reward you with goodness and grant you good health.”

The Commissioner of Police, in response, appreciated the supports and involvement of the community in policing efforts especially the ongoing Operation Kukan Kura, and reiterated the commitment of the Command in ensuring public safety and security in the State.

He enjoined all to see the fight against crime as a collective responsibility and thanked them for the solidarity which he said will act as a moral booster and motivate the personnel to do more.
