Sha’Carri Richardson arrested at US airport
America’s sprint queen, Sha’Carri Richardson, is once again caught in the eye of a storm, this time at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport where she was arrested for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend, fellow runner Christian Coleman.
According to police reports, the drama unfolded when Richardson, 25, reportedly yanked Coleman’s backpack, blocked his path, and shoved him into a wall during what appeared to be a heated argument. Surveillance footage also shows her throwing what TSA officials believe were headphones at him.
The reason is still unclear. But what’s raising eyebrows is the fact that Coleman, a sprinter himself, refused to press charges or even participate in the investigation.
“Coleman did not want to participate any further… and declined to be a victim,” the report stated bluntly.
Despite the arrest, Richardson showed up at the U.S. Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon on Thursday, competing in the opening round of the women’s 100 meters. She already has a free ticket to the World Championships in Tokyo this September, thanks to her status as the reigning world champion.
But while she’s sprinting toward gold, controversy seems to be sprinting after her.
USA Track and Field (USATF) has washed its hands for now.
“USATF is aware of the reports and is not commenting on this matter,” the body said in a curt statement.
Richardson’s camp is silent. Her agent didn’t respond to media inquiries.
