Michelle Obama snubs Barack’s birthday amid fresh divorce rumours

Former US First Lady Michelle Obama has stirred up fresh divorce rumours after failing to wish her husband, Barack Obama, a happy birthday on social media, for the first time in years.

The former president turned 64 on Monday, August 4, with birthday messages flooding in from public figures, fans, and celebrities around the world.

But noticeably missing was his wife’s message.

Michelle, 61, known for her heartfelt and affectionate birthday posts to Barack, said nothing this year  and social media users have not taken it lightly.

Just last year, she shared a photo of the couple with the caption:

“Happy birthday to the love of my life! Here’s to weathering all of life’s storms and moving mountains together.”

This time, there is not a single post,  nor comment, nor even a story.

The silence comes amid months of speculation about trouble in the Obama home, with many pointing to Michelle’s absence at key public events including Jimmy Carter’s funeral.

Back in April, Barack himself hinted at some strain, telling students at Hamilton College that he was in a “deep deficit” with Michelle and had been doing “fun things” to make up for it.

Adding more fuel to the fire, the couple addressed the rumours on Michelle’s podcast, IMO, which she co-hosts with her brother, Craig Robinson.

“She took me back! It was touch and go for a while,” Barack said jokingly.
Michelle laughed and added, “Oh yeah, the rumour mill.”

Though the couple laughed it off, many fans believe Michelle’s missing birthday tribute says more than words ever could.

Still, during another episode of her podcast, Michelle shut down talk of divorce, saying:

“There hasn’t been one moment in our marriage where I thought about quitting my man. And we’ve had some really hard times.”

The couple has been married for 33 years and shares two daughters, Malia and Sasha.

For now, neither Barack nor Michelle has addressed the birthday silence but the internet certainly has.
