London Stabbing: Two charged over death of 26-year-old Nigerian

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed the arrest and charging of two individuals in connection with the murder of 26-year-old Nigerian national, Ayowale Aladejana, who was fatally stabbed in his apartment in New Cross, southeast London.

According to an official statement from the police, the suspects  a man and a woman  have been charged with murder following the incident which occurred on Saturday, August 2.

The male suspect, Ben Wazabanga, 23, of Fairfax Road, Bedford, was charged with murder and possession of a knife. He was remanded in custody and appeared before Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Monday, August 4.

The female suspect, Ronique Belfon, also 23, of Morinsbury Road, Bedford, was charged with murder and appeared before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on the same day.

Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, who is leading the investigation, expressed condolences to the victim’s family, stating:

“Our thoughts are with Ayowale’s family and friends at this difficult time. I understand this incident will be concerning and we are carrying out a fast-paced and thorough investigation to establish the circumstances. I would encourage anyone who has not yet spoken to us to come forward.”

Emergency services responded to reports of a stabbing at a residential address on Monson Road, New Cross, at approximately 7:26 p.m. on Saturday. Officers arrived at the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service and medics from London’s Air Ambulance.

Despite efforts to resuscitate him, Ayowale was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination conducted on Sunday determined the preliminary cause of death to be a stab wound to the chest.

The victim’s family is currently receiving support from specially trained officers as investigations continue.
