Akanji is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, defamation, and publication of fake news. The charges were brought against her by officers of the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos.

A 37-year-old Facebook user, Kofoworola Akanji, was on Wednesday arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Tinubu, Lagos, over allegations of publishing and distributing fake and defamatory content against Nollywood actress and entrepreneur, Lizzy Anjorin.

Akanji is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, defamation, and publication of fake news. The charges were brought against her by officers of the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos.

According to prosecutors, ASP Haruna Ibrahim and ASP Salihu Kadiri, the defendant, along with other unnamed individuals now at large, allegedly committed the offences between 2023 and 2025. The prosecution cited violations of Sections 39, 57, and 150 of the Lagos State Criminal Laws (2015).

The defendant pleaded not guilty to all charges. Her counsel applied for bail, arguing that the offences were bailable.

Presiding Magistrate Wahab Balogun granted bail in the sum of ₦100,000 with two sureties in like sum. The case was adjourned until August 21, 2025, for trial.
