Tragedy in Borno as grenade blast Kills 3 young girls in Gwoza

Three little girls were on Thursday afternoon blown to death after a grenade suspected to have been abandoned by Boko Haram insurgents exploded in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

The tragic incident happened around 2:20 p.m. while the victims, Fati Dahiru, Aisha Ibrahim, and Fati Yakubu were playing in the area.

A member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), Buba Yaga, said the children unknowingly tampered with the device, triggering the explosion.

Security sources said a joint team of Police EOD-CBRN, troops of Operation Hadin Kai, CJTF, and local hunters stormed the area shortly after the blast, swept the surroundings, and confirmed there were no other explosive devices.

The victims were rushed to the General Hospital in Gwoza but were confirmed dead on arrival.

Their remains have been handed over to their families for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

Security agencies have again warned residents to steer clear of suspicious items and alert authorities immediately to avoid a repeat of the tragedy.
