UEFA slams Yamal, Lewandowski with heavy fines

UEFA slams Barcelona stars Yamal, Lewandowski with fines over anti-doping rules breach

Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and striker Robert Lewandowski have landed in trouble with UEFA after the pair were found guilty of breaching anti-doping regulations during last season’s Champions League semi-final against Inter Milan.

European football’s governing body says the two failed to “report immediately to the Doping Control Station” after the match, which is a direct violation of strict testing procedures meant to protect the integrity of the game.

For their actions, both players have been fined €5,000 each. While no failed drug test was involved, UEFA insists its rules are clear: if you’re picked for a doping test, you go straight there after the final whistle, no detours, no delays.

It didn’t stop there. Coach Hansi Flick was also hit with a €20,000 fine and slapped with a one-match ban from UEFA competitions for “violating the general principles of conduct” and “the basic rules of decent conduct.”

Barcelona as a club was not spared either,  fined €5,250 after fans hurled objects onto the pitch and another €2,500 for fireworks during the game.

All punishments take immediate effect and will bite during the club’s next European outing.
