Police nab Akwa Ibom ritualist supplying ‘bulletproof’ charms to robbers
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspected ritualist, Cletus Effiong Bassey, for allegedly supplying charms to armed robbers.
Police spokesperson, Timfon John, said in a statement on Friday that the 30-year-old suspect was arrested on July 29, 2025, at about 6:51pm at his shrine in Nung Oku Village, Uruan Local Government Area.
John said preliminary investigations showed Bassey was involved in preparing native charms, including so-called “bullet repellants,” for criminal gangs.
She added that a search of his compound led to the recovery of a fabricated single-barrel gun.
According to the police, investigations are still ongoing.
