Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has described the just deceased Chief Audu Ogbeh as a “quintessential gentleman, affable and amiable friend and reliable political ally”.
Ogbeh, a former Agriculture minister and nationalist chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), died on Saturday at the age of 78.
Atiku, in a statement released by his media office on Saturday in Abuja, described Ogbeh’s death as a loss of a patriot and principled politician whose immense contributions to nation-building would be sorely missed.
He described Ogbeh’s chairmanship of the PDP from 2001 to 2005 as impactful.
Atiku said Ogbeh was a detribalized and development-minded politician, one who combined intellectualism with pragmatism.
“He was also a true defender of liberal democracy. His type is difficult to replace,” Atiku said.
He commiserated with the family, friends, the people of Benue, and Nigerians at large and prayed for the repose of the deceased politician’s soul.
