The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) has formally written to the Local Organizing Committee (“LOC”) in Kenya responsible for the organization of the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) 2024, to express its deep concern over a series of serious breaches in security protocols at Kasarani Stadium during matches involving the Kenya National Team.
CAF has observed with increasing alarm the persistent lapses in security measures, which pose a threat not only to the safety of players, officials, and fans, but also to the integrity of the tournament itself. Of particular concern are the incidents that occurred on Sunday, 10 August 2025, during the high-profile CHAN fixture between Kenya and Morocco.
These incidents, which included unauthorized access to restricted areas and crowd control failures, have been deemed unacceptable by CAF.
CAF strongly condemns these ongoing security failures and has emphasized the urgent need for immediate corrective action. As the governing body responsible for football in Africa, CAF holds all host nations and organizing committees to the highest standards in ensuring the safety, security, and smooth operation of all official competitions.
In view of the gravity of the situation, CAF has referred the matter to the relevant and competent bodies for a full investigation.
The findings of this inquiry will guide the imposition of any necessary disciplinary or corrective measures in line with CAF’s regulations and international best practices.
CAF has reiterated its expectation that the LOC and the relevant Kenyan authorities will treat this issue with the seriousness it deserves, and implement comprehensive measures to prevent any recurrence.
The safety of all stakeholders remains CAF’s top priority, and any continued negligence will compel CAF to consider further action, including potential sanctions.
