The Police in Lagos State, on Tuesday arraigned a 35-year-old business woman, Blessing Stands, at the Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged fraud.
The defendant whose address is unknown, was charged with fraud and stealing, but pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp. Edet Ekpo told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb 3, 2024 at about 3.30.p.m, at Pure Water Bus stop, Badagry, Lagos.
Ekpo alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N570,000 from one Mrs Ife Chukwuka, the complainant, under the pretence of paying back.
“The defendant unlawfully converted the money to her own use without the consent of the complainant. She was arrested and handed over to police for prosecution,” he said.
According to Ekpo, the offence contravenes the provisions of Sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum adding that one of the sureties must be self employed.
Layeni adjourned the case until Aug.28, for mention. (NAN)
