Vigilante Leader Karim Babatunde Abdul Targeted in Armed Assault

Saki, Oyo State – On August 22, 2024, at approximately 23:00 hours, Karim Babatunde Abdul, a prominent vigilante leader operating in the No 18 challenge area off Polytechnic Road, Saki, Oyo State, was the target of a calculated attack.

Preliminary reports indicate that a group of assailants, identified as Fulani herdsmen and disguised in military and police uniforms, infiltrated Mr. Abdul’s office complex. The perpetrators, armed with sophisticated weaponry, gained initial access by capturing Olayiwola, the head of security stationed at the gate.

Mr. Abdul, upon observing two masked individuals brandishing a firearm at Mr. Olayiwola through a window, promptly evacuated the premises via an alternative exit. A subsequent exchange of gunfire ensued between the assailants and responding local vigilantes, facilitating Mr. Abdul’s successful escape.

Mr. Olayiwola and several other vigilantes sustained serious injuries during the confrontation and were immediately transported to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment. The incident resulted in substantial damage to security vehicles and the subsequent arson of Mr. Abdul’s residential property.

Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation into the matter. The incident underscores growing concerns regarding the security of community leaders and the escalation of organized criminal activities in the region. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
