In a major move to transform Nigeria’s land transportation system, the Federal Government has approved the construction of six ultra-modern bus terminals across the six geopolitical zones under the National Public Transport Project.
The Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Alkali, announced this on Wednesday in Abuja while addressing questions from journalists at the conclusion of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
Senator Alkali described the terminals as part of the legacy projects of the Renewed Hope Administration, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Once completed, the facilities are expected to enhance travel safety, reduce road accidents, and curb illegal highway activities that have long affected the nation.
He further highlighted that the project will serve as a catalyst for economic, social, and political development, reinforcing the viability of public transport in Nigeria.
“This is the first time the federal government is making a strategic investment in modern bus terminals, selected for both economic impact and security,” the Minister said.
The ₦142.03 billion project is planned for Abeokuta (South West), Gombe (North East), Kano (North West), Lokoja (North Central), Onitsha (South East), and Warri (South South).
During the FEC meeting, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR commended cabinet members for their unwavering commitment, resilience, and dedication to implementing the administration’s reform agenda.
