Heavy security presence was recorded across major roads and strategic locations in Ibadan North Federal Constituency on Saturday as residents trooped out to participate in the by-election.
The exercise followed the death of Hon. Olajide Akinremi of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who passed away on July 10, 2024.
Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigerian Army were deployed to maintain order and ensure a peaceful process.
From as early as 7:00 a.m., security personnel were stationed at key areas including Adamasingba, Agodi-Gate, the University of Ibadan junction, Mokola, Sango–UI Road, Housing Corporation, Bodija, the Secretariat, and Bodija Market–UI Road.
Movement was restricted to individuals with election-related business, while others were turned back.
Despite the heavy security presence, the atmosphere remained calm, with voters seen proceeding to polling units in an orderly manner under close monitoring by law enforcement agencies. (NAN)
