President Bola Tinubu has declared the passing of His Royal Highness, Major General Muhammadu Sani Sami (Gomo II), the revered Emir of Zuru, a colossal loss that reverberates across Nigeria.

The retired general and former military governor of Bauchi State, who died early today, leaves behind a towering legacy as a fearless soldier, visionary administrator, and cherished traditional leader whose impact reshaped Kebbi State and the nation.

President Tinubu, in a heartfelt statement, described the late emir as a “pillar of Nigeria’s history,” whose contributions during the Nigerian Civil War (1967-1970) and beyond cemented his status as a national icon.

As a young military officer, Sami’s bravery on the battlefield helped steer Nigeria through one of its darkest chapters.

His later tenure as military governor and Emir of Zuru brought transformative leadership, fostering stability and progress in the Zuru Emirate.

The President lauded the emir’s unparalleled ability to unite and uplift, noting that his reign brought unprecedented development to Kebbi State.

From infrastructure improvements to fostering peace among diverse communities, Sami’s leadership was a beacon of hope. “His wisdom and courage held Zuru together,” Tinubu said, highlighting the emir’s role in driving progress.

President Tinubu extended his deepest condolences to the government and people of Kebbi, the Zuru Emirate, and the late emir’s family, praying for Almighty Allah to grant him eternal rest.

“We will long remember his sacrifices and service,” the President declared, urging Nigerians to honour Sami’s memory by continuing his work for unity and development.
