The Lagos State Police Command has smashed another cult ring after arresting a notorious ex-convict, caught with a hidden firearm stuffed inside a toilet pipe in an uncompleted building at Abule Eko.
On 18th August 2025, chaos gripped residents of Sabon Kasuwa as 30-year-old Onamade Kayode, a recently freed ex-convict, allegedly stormed the area, brandishing a crude but deadly locally-made pistol and threatening to rain terror on the community.
Alarmed residents quickly tipped off the Police, and operatives of Ijede Division swung into action.
The officers tracked Kayode to a half-built structure where he tried to take cover. But his run was short-lived.
Drama unfolded when Kayode, cornered and grilled, confessed he had a weapon. He then shockingly led detectives to a toilet pipe where the gun had been carefully hidden.
Police investigations later revealed that Kayode, who regained freedom in 2022 after serving time for cultism-related crimes, never abandoned the underworld. He remains an active member of a deadly cult group still tormenting parts of Lagos.
The suspect is now singing like a bird, giving investigators leads on his gang members and their cache of weapons.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, hailed the Ijede operatives for their swift and professional strike, stressing that cultists and armed robbers will find Lagos too hot for their operations.
Police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Tuesday, urged Lagosians to shun cultism and continue to feed the Police with vital intelligence.
“We will hunt them down, no matter where they hide,” he vowed.
