Anambra State First Lady, Dr Nonye Soludo, has personally reached out to Jennifer Elohor, the female NYSC member assaulted by operatives of the Agunechemba security outfit, inviting her to the Government House for a private meeting.
The move comes as the state government confirmed that the operatives involved in the shameful incident have been arrested.
An aide to the governor’s wife told reporters that Dr Soludo phoned the corps member to sympathise with her and urged her to visit once she returns to Anambra.
“The lady was very happy with Her Excellency’s humility and promised to honour the invitation,” the aide disclosed.
Recall that the First Lady had earlier condemned the attack, stressing that justice must be served to deter such behaviour from so-called community security agents.
Meanwhile, the governor’s adviser on community security, Prince Ken Emeakayi, admitted that although the operatives were on “legitimate duty” chasing suspected cultists, their decision to brutalise an innocent corps member was “unacceptable and regrettable.”
According to him, the Agunechemba team, working with the central strike force, stormed a compound in pursuit of fleeing suspects but ended up assaulting the corps member in the process.
Eight operatives linked to the assault were paraded in Awka on Wednesday and will remain in detention as investigations continue.
